It was founded in 1946. The main focus of a study is B&H art od the 20th century. A rich collection of Gallery today comprises about 6,000 works and is divided into several collections: a collection of Bosnian art collection of works from the former Yugoslavia, a collection of icons, a collection of a Swiss artist Ferdinand Hodler, a collection of drawings from Austro-Hungarian period, a collection of international modern art.
After aggression, a collection of photos was formed, and as well the reconstruction of the building was completed, plus the previous exhibitions were enriched with a gallery of Switzerland.
