Museum of Contemporary Art Ars Aevi

The objective of the Ars Aevi Project is to create an International Multicultural Centre and Museum of Contemporary World Art in Sarajevo, a city where for centuries differences between East and West have met in an atmosphere of mutual respect and love.

In the cultural environment of Sarajevo and with its international orientation, the Ars Aevi Centre and Museum will be a permanent and visible symbol of the hope that instead of separating, differences can stimulate us to find beauty and value in diversity.

The Ars Aevi Museum will be a centre of international dialogue, meeting and cultural exchange. It is a project with significance for the present and future of Sarajevo, of Bosnia and Herzegovina, of Southeast Europe and beyond. Ars Aevi Collection holds artworks of some of the most eminent world artists operating in the field of contemporary visual arts.

The collection was formed and continues to grow through a collaboration of the Sarajevan Ars Aevi Project and a number of recognized European museums, foundations and centers of contemporary art and city governments. The museum is located in the facilities of the Ars Aevi art depot at the Skenderija Centre.

International art critics recognized the Ars Aevi collection as the most significant collection of contemporary art in the SEE. Some segments of the collection were named after cities where promotional exhibitions of artworks for the Ars Aevi Project were organized, set up and presented: Collections – Prato, Milan, Venice, Ljubljana, Vienna, Istanbul and Sarajevo.

Thus, Sarajevo Collection creates an exceptional quality of the contemporary art collection setting up a balance in the number of artists from the East and the West, once again reaffirming its historical and traditional feature of a cultural melting pot.
