After the Ottoman rule has been replaced with the Austro-Hungarian rule, another stage of life in Sarajevo started.

We start our story on the coast of Miljacka, at Baščaršija, where we will find the most beautiful building from this period, once city hall, later library, today the most representative heritage from the recent aggression and siege of Sarajevo, Vijećnica library.

Since the Austro-Hungarian authorities have been mostly focused on building monumental buildings, specially monuments of Christianity, one of such kind can be find in the heart of Sarajevo, Cathedral of Sacred Jesus Hearth.

Next on the list of churches is Franciscan's monastery and the Church of the Saint Anthony of Padua, built in 1914 by Josip Vancaš, in neo-gothic style.
Ashkenazi synagogue was built in 1902 according to the design of Karlo Paržik as the first religious object to be constructed in the pseudo-Moorish style. The synagougue is located on the left bank of the river Miljacka and it is the only active synagogue in Sarajevo.

Jajce barracks, made in time of Austro-Hungarian rule, today standing at the top of the hill and giving you breathtaking panorama view over whole Sarajevo in case you decide to climb up and see it.
Monument to, Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie, in Sarajevo assassinated, of which today, only remains can be seen.
Railway station at Bistrik, one of the few remaining in Sarajevo, which are designed during the Austro-Hungarian time, in the alpine style.
