Church of the Holy Transfiguration is the only Orthodox church in the municipality of Novo Sarajevo in Sarajevo.
Temple of the Transfiguration in Novo Sarajevo was designed by Professor Alexander Deroko. It was completed in 1940, and was consecrated on Sunday 8th of September, same year.

At the time of consecration was visited by 50,000 believers. Consecration was completed by Serb Patriarch Gavrilo Dožić, with concelebration of Metropolitan Dabrobosanski Petar ep.Žički Nikolaj, ep.of Zvornik-Tuzla Nektarios, ep.Zahumlje-Herzegovinia Nikolaj and several priests and deacons of both lines.
The ceremony was attended by deputy NJ.V of the King, Colonel Mihailo Ščekić, deputy of royal government, ban of Drina banovina Mihaldžić, army commander Simović, president of the city council Zlatar, generals Božić, Petrović, Jovanović, Damjanović, Bulić, Sarajevo head officials and many others.
During the aggression on Bosnia-Herzegovina, 1992-1995, the temple was damaged significantly.
The project was originally intended for the church to the town of Split, but by chance, the church was built in Sarajevo.
That is why the church looks like a place of worship on the Adriatic coast.
