With 1,487 officialy buried Shahids and fallen soldiers (during the period from 1992 to 1995) Kovači are the largest graveyard of Shahids in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This encompasses the graves of former Shahids, that is, those from 15.and 16.cenutries.

It is important to empashize that soldiers from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina are buried at Kovači graveyard.

Just as well, defenders born in Sandžak, Macedonia and Kosovo, as well as some from Arabic countries, are buried at Kovači.

They all got killed defending freedom, honor, propery, family, ther religion, dignity and state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Respecting historical importance of Kovači area, Assembly of Sarajevo Canton made decision on adoption of regulation plan of Kovači Shahids Memorial in 1997, (Official Gazzete of Sarajevo Canton, No. 17/99).

Kovači Memorial is supposed to be Memorial Complex of all defenders of free Bosnia and Herzegovina that got killed.

“And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah, “They are dead.” Rather, they are alive, but you perceive (it) not.” Qur’an, Sura Al-baqarah: verse 154.
