The Institute of St.Augustine

This institution (present day Music Academy) was built in 1893.

It was the property of the Sisters of God's Love, who taught children music and conducted schooling for children from families in which the German language was spoken. With the main purpose of camaraderie, the sisters opened a house for social and spiritual protection of sisters who cared for the old and weak or served as domestic help.

After World War II, this school and house were closed, and the building began to serve as a Music Academy, which it continues to do. Built according to the design of the architect Vancas in the neo-Gothic style, it had as a main concern the space acoustics, because its essential purpose was and still is as a musical institution.

This building, likewise, suffered damage during the siege, and still the classes at this educational monument were never abandoned.
